Low-VOC paint contains reduced levels of volatile organic compounds, the chemicals that off-gas as paint dries and cause that strong “new paint” smell. Lower VOC levels mean better indoor air quality while the finish cures, which matters most on interior projects.
Low-VOC formulations used to mean softer finishes, but modern products close that gap considerably. For bedrooms, nurseries, and homes where everyone spends a lot of time indoors, the air quality benefit is worth considering.
